Space is the Place

Returning to planet Earth after a space trip, Sun Ra and the other members of his Arkestra intend to take African Americans from Oakland to colonise a new planet that they discovered on their journey. The soundtrack creates a sense of apotheosis, as one would expect from the iconic Sun Ra and his fellow musicians. A milestone of Afrofuturism, the film depicts Black people as aliens forcibly exiled from their original homelands in search of a land of real opportunities.
