Programme:
Juliette Binoche plays Isabelle, an artist and divorced mother living in Paris, whose air of detachment and independence masks a deep-seated desire: to find a deep romantic connection. As Isabelle becomes involved with a series of men, none of whom correspond to the ideal she seeks, we watch her pick apart her own anxiety, vulnerability and resilience. With a script written in partnership with the French novelist Christine Angot, the director’s first foray into the romantic comedy genre keeps things masterfully balanced on the edge between humour and suffering.
