Nénette and Boni

Nénette et Boni follows two siblings who are reunited after being raised separately by their divorced parents. Boni makes a living selling pizzas in Marseille. Nénette has run away from college and goes looking for her brother after realising she is pregnant. The unexpected discovery brings the two teenagers closer together, but conflicts arise as they are newly confronted by the friction of old family ties. This was the first of Denis’s films to feature a soundtrack by the band Tindersticks, with whom she would go on to establish a prolific collaboration. Winner of the Golden Leopard at Locarno Film Festival.
