Programme:
Bokolo and Mamadou, two Senegalese street sweepers living in Paris, are looking for a way to help a sick friend return to Africa. When they find an old French cookbook, they realise that the plan could involve learning—by heart—the sophisticated recipes that they never get to practise. Although best known for its highly political and more forceful works, Maldoror surprises us here with a subtle and subversive comedy. Through humour, the film exposes inequalities and racial stereotypes, while also focusing on the power of friendship and unity, especially for those who live far from home with a sense of not belonging.
