The Great Ecstasy of Woodcarver Steiner

Steiner is a woodworker by profession and ski jumper by vocation. He works all day so that he can pursue his true passion: flying. On the slopes he is determined to break the ski jump world record, jumping further than the rules allow and forcing the organisers to review their safety measures. Here, in one of his earliest documentary films, Herzog portrays a man torn between professional discipline and airborne ecstasy, exploring the almost obsessive impulse to break through the limits of the possible.
