Programme:
David Bowie was a fan of comedy — and of Buster Keaton! In 1979, he confessed to Rolling Stone that The General was one of his favourite films. On Keaton's birthday, and as part of the retrospective dedicated to Bowie, we're screening this timeless classic. During the American Civil War, a train engineer pursues the spies who stole his locomotive — and the woman he loves. Keaton shines in a whirlwind of stunts and comedic precision. One of the most famous scenes involves the real collapse of a bridge with a moving train — the most expensive in cinema history at the time.
