Programme:
The African Desperate is a comedy that follows Palace Bryant (Diamond Stingily), a black artist, on her last day at a predominantly white art school in New York. Amid microaggressions, pretentious criticism and constant academic pressure, Palace just wants to return home to Chicago. The journey turns into a mind-bending odyssey, punctuated by drugs, clandestine encounters and unexpected situations. With biting humour, cultural criticism and pop aesthetics, Martine Syms satirises the world of contemporary art, exposing its contradictions and tensions with precise acidity.
