Kamome Diner

Sachie opened a Japanese restaurant in Helsinki, but during the first month she had no customers. Shortly afterwards, she is joined by Midori, who took a spontaneous trip to Finland, and Masako, a tourist who lost her luggage. Together, the three transform the small restaurant into an adventure of self-discovery—finally winning over the Finns through gastronomy. Noted for his dry humour and visual rigour, Ogigami realised his dream of filming in the homeland of his favourite director, Aki Kaurismäki. The result is a delicate and moving story about an unlikely community, combining the sensitivity and eccentricity of Japanese and Scandinavian cultures.
