In Doll Clothes, the action unfolds in a book where Cindy Sherman appears as a paper doll, accompanied by several changes of clothes and printed accessories — imitating the popular fashion toys of the 20th century. The protagonist faces difficulties in dressing herself, anticipating reflections on identity, gender, and representation that would mark the filmmaker's future work. Symbolising the objectification of the female body, the doll reappears in later projects, such as the Sex Pictures series, consolidating Sherman's interest in the role of the body and image in the social construction of identity.
