Programme:
In the village of Casegas, near Covilhã, Easter is celebrated over three days. On Saturday, the children parade through the streets with cowbells. On Sunday, the parish priest visits the houses and the festivities are accompanied by wine and ‘água-pé’. The ceremonies continue on Monday, culminating in a procession where religious fervour blends with a festive atmosphere. Produced by Cinequanon—and co-written by Arnaldo Saraiva, a native of Casegas—this film stands out for its ethnographic perspective on Portuguese folk traditions, which often blend the sacred and the profane.
Premiere of a restored print. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Luís Galvão Teles and Arnaldo Saraiva (professor, essayist and poet).
